Welcome to the Kern Regional Center Home Page on the Internet. KRC is proud to share information about who we are and what we do. In addition, from our web site you will be able to access other information related to developmental disabilities. We are one of California's 21 Regional Centers which coordinate community-based services to California's 225,000 citizens who have developmental disabilities. KRC serves about 6,300 people in Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties. Our counties cover approximately 22,000 square miles with a population of 811,000 people.
As you should already know the legislature increased the payment reduction from 3% to 4.25%. This was done on October 19, 2010 and made effective July 1, 2010. We did not retroactively go back and take the additional reduction from you for July thru September because of a lawsuit claiming that the reduction should not be retroactive. Recently a judge ruled in favor of the State and said that the reduction was effective July 1, 2010.
We now have to collect this reduction from you. We will do this over two months by reducing what we pay you for your May and June bills. We will offset your May bill with the July reduction and your June bill with your August and September reductions. We need to do it this way because of the limitations of the computer program that the State has given to use for this purpose. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you have questions, they may be directed to Jack Flinn at 852-3257.
